Labour try to block Spanish City regeneration plans
Residents will be alarmed to learn of Labour’s attempts to block the Mayor’s plans for Whitley Bay’s regeneration.
Labour councillors attempted to have the decision to appoint a preferred developer to work with the Council on the Spanish City project delayed to allow for further consultation.
This could have led to a delay of up to six months before any works could begin. Even worse, the chosen developer could be lost and the whole project brought to a halt.
Mayor Linda Arkley comments: “This was nothing but a spoiling tactic to try and delay or even stop the whole scheme. It smacks of political spite by the Labour Party towards Whitley Bay. We’ve had 28 consultations with residents over the past 10 years and residents are desperate for the town to be improved. Sadly Labour are just so negative about anything good which happens in the coastal area.”
